The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology Gabaldon Campus Laboratory High School in partnership with the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Gabaldon conducted a training-seminar on Adolescent Health Awareness last November 21, 2023, at the USG Function Hall.
The seminar aimed to increase awareness on physical, sexual, and mental health and well-being among adolescent students, promote socio-emotional learning and psychological well-being, ensure access to mental health care, protect and support adolescent students from adversity, and increase awareness on the prevention of unwanted teenage pregnancy.
Dr. Shiena Grace E. Pascual, Municipal Health Officer of RHU Gabaldon discussed Adolescent Health Awareness specifically talking about physical, sexual and mental challenges, risk factors for physical and sexual and mental health problems, and teenage Pregnancy.
Mr. Ryan Paul C. Caalem, LHS Student Confederation adviser welcomed the participants, followed by the statement of purpose delivered by Ms. Ma. Loren Joy Manabat, Campus Nurse, and an inspirational message by Dr. Franklin T. Dumayas, Campus Director, who reiterated the significance and relevance of the activities to the overall health and well-being of students.
Dr. Pascual entertained questions from the students during the open forum.
To further ignite the LHS Student Confederation Officers’ advocacy for mental health awareness, they launched Para Sa’yo Yarn where students picked a color of yarn and put it on their wrists to express their feelings towards that person.
The success of the event is attributed to the LHS Student Confederation led by their Mayor, Xhin Hanie Lei Cruz, LHS Principal Dr. Aileen M. Elegado, the class advisers, and the rest of the LHS Faculty.
